There is no singular answer to this, however, there are some things people can keep in mind and do to help make sure their project is more secure. First, as with most technologies, no-code and low-code tools aren’t inherently insecure in and of themselves. The main issue or exposure is more from the wielder of these tools and can be problematic. The process used determines the risk mostly. 

Keep these things in mind:

• The platforms you’re using can be risky.
  You want to make sure they’re trustworthy, audited, HIPAA, etc. 
• Data Governance / Access
  People use Low Code and No Code to get stuff done… sometimes meaning they’re going ‘outside’ approved data retention methods, etc. Best solution is to make sure that the citizen developers know why data is managed the way it is. Education so they can keep those policies in mind as they use LCNC to build solutions.
• Loss of Knowledge
  If you lose the person who built the app, this can be a problem. This problem is also true for traditional development. Effective documentation is key to addressing this issue. Spreading the knowledge around (partnering with a vendor) also works.
• Many LCNC platforms are built with the expectation that their citizen developers aren’t security experts and therefore built systems to accommodate that.

One thing to remember is that MOST companies are using no-code or low-code to manage processes, systems, and data and aren’t enterprise-level organizations. Instead, they’re small ( <100 employees) and have a felt need for something to manage their systems and data. For these, no-code or low-code is a step up in security from Excel or other high-risk spreadsheets and data repositories.

The security in a no-code or low-code system, along with audit capability, backups, data retention, and logging and the company is lightyears ahead of where they were before implementing no-code or low-code solutions.
